Holistic Self Care and Beauty

March 1, 2022

By now we know that if you really want to make an impactful change in your pursuit of wellness, you have to see to the whole self: mind, body, and spirit. Just like our health, beauty isn’t only skin deep. It flows in and out of our entire being.

There is an aura to beauty that is undeniable. You know it when you see it. You know it when you feel it. When the beauty of who we are, how we feel, and how we look sing in harmony, there is a sense of infinite possibility. That kind of synchronicity comes through long-practiced habits of self-care.

An example of holistic self-care in the morning might look a bit like this:

Mind

Create a space for yourself that engages your senses without overstimulating them or cluttering your thoughts. Clean your vanity and mirror. Light your favorite candle. Slip into a delicious robe. I also like to start my day with a playlist of poetic divas: Cat Power, Joni Mitchell, Neko Case, and Brandi Carlile.

Body

There is something truly mystical about regarding yourself in the mirror. We can all wash up, indulging in our favorite products. But, when we choose to wash our face, exfoliate, tone, and moisturize with intention, we awaken to ourselves. There is also something indescribable about a clean face with a full set of lashes that frame the natural beauty we possess. I find a nice cup of tea followed by some fresh green juice adds just as much luminosity to my cheeks as the best highlighter would.

Spirit

Another word for spirit is breath. As we breathe, we transform toxins into vitality. Exhale the day that has passed and breathe in the day that has yet to come. When the mind and body are well tended, the spirit gives rise to our higher self. It is from this rich, imaginative space we reach the heights and depths of our potential.

Beauty excludes no one. It lives within each of us and in every aspect of our being. The more diverse our perception of beauty and our approach to its manifestation, the more it will be reflected in our own lives.
